The Service for the Lord’s Day

GATHERING

Welcoming Announcements

Call to worship

Let’s read our Call to Worship, from page 1 in our hymnals.

Cry out with joy to the Lord, all the earth.

Worship the Lord with gladness.

Come into God’s presence with singing!

The grace of the Lord Jesus Christ be with you all.

And also with you.

Let us worship God.

Opening Hymn

Opening Prayer

Almighty God,

to whom all hearts are open,

all desires, known,

and from whom no secrets are hid:

Cleanse the thoughts of our hearts

by the inspiration of your Holy Spirit,

that we may perfectly love you

and worthily magnify your holy name;

through Christ our Lord.

Amen.

Call to Confession

If we say we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us.

But when we confess our sins, God who is faithful and just will forgive us our sins

and cleanse us from all unrighteousness.

Trusting in God’s grace, let’s confess our sin.

Let’s read together the Confession “B” –

found at the top of page 4 in our hymnals.

Holy and merciful God,

in your presence we confess our failure to be what you created us to be.

You alone know how often we have sinned in wandering from your ways,

in wasting your gifts, in forgetting your love.

By your loving mercy,

help us to live in your light and abide in your ways,

for the sake of Jesus Christ our Savior.

Silent Personal Confession

Assurance of Pardon

Anyone who is in Christ is a new creation.

The old life has gone; a new life has begun.

Know that you are forgiven and be at peace.

Amen.

Summary of the Law

Turning to the bottom of page 36, we read the “Summary of the Law”.

Our Lord Jesus said:

You shall love the Lord your God

     with all your heart,

                 and with all your soul,

                             and with all your mind.

This is the greatest and first commandment.

And a second is like it:

You shall love your neighbor as yourself.

On these two commandments

hang all the law and the prophets.

Passing the Peace

Having been reconciled with God,

let us be reconciled with each other.

The peace of our Lord Jesus Christ be with you.

And also with you.

WORD

Prayer for Illumination

Lord, open our hearts and minds

By the power of your Holy Spirit,

That as the Scriptures are read

And your Word is proclaimed,

We may hear with joy

What you say to us today.

Amen.

Hear what the Spirit is saying to the church.

Affirmation of Faith – The Apostles’ Creed

Let’s confess the faith of our Baptism with the Apostles’ Creed,

(found on page 17 of your hymnals).

Chant:

I believe in God, the Father almighty,

creator of heaven and earth.

Amen, Amen! Amen, Amen!

I believe in Jesus Christ, His only Son, our Lord,

he was conceived by the power of the Holy Spirit,

and born of the Virgin Mary,

he suffered under Pontius Pilate,

was crucified, and died, and was buried;

he descended to the dead.

On the third day he rose again;

he ascended into heaven,

and is seated at the right hand of the Father,

he will come again to judge the living and the dead.

Amen, Amen! Amen, Amen!

I believe in the Holy Spirit,

the holy catholic universal church,

the communion of saints,

the forgiveness of sins,

the resurrection of the body,

and in life everlasting.

Amen, Amen! Amen, Amen!

Prayers of the People

Holy God, we give thanks that you hear our prayers.

We thank you for the glory of our risen Lord

who makes every day new.

We thank you for the mission and ministry of the church…

for every service that proclaims your love…

for the people and relationships that sustain us…

for our calling to daily discipleship…

for signs of new life and hope…

People of God, for what else do we give thanks?

Prayers of Praise:   Lord in your love and grace – Hear our Praise!

God of compassion,

we bring the needs of the world before you.

Renew this weary world,

heal the hurts of all your children,

and bring about your peace for all

in Christ Jesus, the living Lord.

Especially we pray

for the church of Jesus Christ in every land…

for the stewardship and healing of creation…

for friends and family members…

for neighbors in special need…

for the wisdom of your Spirit for this day…

People of God, for what else – and who else – do we pray?

Prayers of Intercession:   Lord in your mercy – Hear our Prayer!

Eternal God, our beginning and our end,

be our starting point and our haven,

and accompany us in this day’s journey.

Use our hands to do the work of your creation,

and use our lives

to bring others the new life you give this world

in Jesus Christ, Redeemer of all. Amen.

Freely you have received, freely give.

Let us return to God the offerings of our life

and the gifts of the earth.

The Presbyterian Giving Catalog is a way to join with thousands of others giving to Presbyterian ministries to bring hope to communities around the world. There are gifts ranging from

You may write “mission” in the memo line of your check, or send email to Charley if you want all or part of your online donation to be given to this month’s mission offering.

Let’s sing a song of praise for all that God has given us – let’s sing the Doxology together.

Doxology (sung)

Praise God, from whom all blessings flow;

Praise God all creatures here below;

Praise God above, ye heavenly host;

Praise Father, Son, and Holy Ghost. Amen.

Dedication of the Offering

Please join me as we continue our prayer – at the top of page 8.

All that is in the heavens and on the earth

is yours, O Lord,

and of your own we give you.

Blessed are you, O God, maker of all things.

Through your goodness you have blessed us with these gifts:

our selves, our time, and our possessions.

Use us, and what we have gathered,

in feeding the world with your love;

through the one who gave himself for us,

Jesus Christ our Savior and Lord.   Amen.

Invitation to the Lord’s Table

This is the joyful feast of the people of God!

People will come from north and south

and from east and west to sit at table in the kingdom of God.

According to Luke,

when our risen Lord was at table with his disciples,

He took the bread, blessed and broke it, and gave it to them.

Their eyes were then opened, and they recognized him.

This is the Lord’s table.

Our Savior invites those who trust him

to share the feast that he has prepared.

Great Thanksgiving

The Lord be with you.

And also with you. / Y también contigo.

Lift up your hearts

We lift them to the Lord. / Los elevamos al Señor.

Let us give thanks to the Lord, our God

It is right to give our thanks and praise. /

Es digno y justo darle gracias y alabanzas.

Oh Señor, nuestro Dios, creador y gobernador del universo, …

… who forever sing to the glory of your name:

(all sing)

Holy, holy, holy! Lord God Almighty!

Early in the morning our song shall rise to thee.

¡Santo! ¡Santo! ¡Santo! Te adoro reverente,

Dios en tres personas, bendita Trinidad.

Prayer continues

Blessed are you, O Christ, our Lord, …

… bind us together … as we hear these familiar words.

We give you thanks that the Lord Jesus,

on the night before he died, took bread,

and after giving thanks to you, he broke it,

and gave it to his disciples, saying:

Take, eat. This is my body, given for you.

Do this in remembrance of me.

“Esto es mi cuerpo dado por ustedes;

hagan esto en memoria de mí.”

In the same way Jesus took the cup, saying:

This cup is the new covenant, sealed in my blood,

shed for you for the forgiveness of sins.

Whenever you drink it, do this in remembrance of me.

Memorial Acclamation

According to Christ’s commandment:

We remember his death,

we proclaim his resurrection,

we await his coming in glory.

Prayer continues

Gracious God, pour out your Holy Spirit upon us

and upon these your gifts of bread and cup,

that the bread we break and the cup we bless

may be the communion of the body and blood of Christ.

Lord God, speak to us again …

… May we be … united in purpose, united in ministry in every place.

Through Christ, with Christ, in Christ, in the unity of the Holy Spirit,

all glory and honor are yours, almighty God, now and forever.

… the one who taught us to pray, saying:

Our Father in heaven,                                       Padre nuestro que estás en los cielos

hallowed be your name,                                     santificado sea tu nombre.

your kingdom come,                                         Venga tu reino.

your will be done,                                              Hágase tu voluntad, como en el cielo,

on earth as in heaven.                                        así también en la tierra.

Give us today our daily bread.

Forgive us our sins                                            Y perdónanos nuestras dudas

as we forgive those                                            como también perdonamos

who sin against us.                                            a nuestros deudores.

Save us from the time of trial                           Y no nos dejes caer en tentación,

and deliver us from evil.                                   mas líbranos del mal;

For the kingdom,                                               Porque tuyo es el reino,

the power, and the glory                                   el poder, y la Gloria,

are yours now                                                     por todos los siglos.

and forever. Amen.                                           Amén.

Breaking of the Bread

Jesus said: I am the bread of life.

Quien a mí viene nunca tendrá hambre.

Jesus said: I am the vine, you are the branches.

y quien en mí cree no tendrá sed jamás.
