Our Pastor

Mary Breden

Pastor Mary Breden has been with us since mid-January, 2013.

She came to us as our Interim Pastor to help us discover who we were and what we, as a church, wanted to accomplish.   It was during this time that we lost numerous members causing us to re-examine ourselves since our greatly diminishing population was no longer able to support the 22,000 square feet of space that had been our Harlingen home for 103 years.

Interim Pastor Mary Breden led us through that tumultuous change when we decided almost unaninmously to take that giant leap of faith and sell the church.   Within three months of advertising the church for sale, we had a buyer and we had 30 days to move everything, sell what we could not take, and give away what we did not need.

We held our first service on October 6, 2013, at our new location with a new moniker as we called ourselves New Hope Presbyterian Church, La Feria Tx.   Officially we are known as First Presbyterian Church (of Harlingen) dba New Hope Presbyterian Church, La Feria, TX.

Interim Pastor Mary Breden stayed with us until we finally selected Pastor Richard Hartsfield in October, 2014, to lead us the rest of the way.

However, in mid-2016, Pastor Richard Hartsfield decided to retire leaving us looking for a Pastor once again.   We spent about a year utilizing services of Chaplains, retired preachers, and church members to give us sermons each Sunday and in the early summer of 2017, Pastor Mary Breden who was our moderator for Session meetings, offered to become our Stated Supply Pastor.

Pastor Mary Breden's Bio will follow soon.
